The main features that led me to choose this camera were zoom lens, automatic focus, high 1200x1600 resolution, the Nikon name, and compact camera size.
The camera, memory card, and reader were purchased from CDW Computer Centers, Inc. Phone: 847-465-6000. The batteries were purchased from Battery City, Los Angeles, CA Phone: 213-658-7520.
The 48 MB memory card holds about 50 pictures in the highest resolution/quality mode and about 1194 in the lowest resolution mode. There are several modes in between. Most pictures were taken in auto record mode, but there are also numerous manual settings with this camera.
The batteries do not last long so rechargeables are a must. I purchased a camera case from Wallmart that has an extra compartment for the batteries.
Although the camera comes with a cable that will connect to the computer's parallel port, data transfer this way is very slow. However, transfer with the PCMCIA card takes under 10 seconds for a full memory. The entire process including moving the memory card back and forth from the camera takes only about a minute.
I print most pictures on 8.5x11 paper with 1/2 inch margins. I print drafts on card stock and final copies on glossy paper. Resolution has not been reduced for the large version on the web, although some of them have been cropped.
